An investigation is underway into “suspicious” fires around Grande Prairie

Police in Grande Prairie are investigating a series of fires that have been deemed suspicious.

The RCMP Forest Crimes Unit and Alberta Forestry and Parks are investigating the cause of some fires that have occurred in the Grande Prairie area over the past few weeks.

– Between April 29 and May 10, eight suspicious fires were investigated at the Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club. These fires, located on the golf course property, also have direct access to the Bear Creek trail system. All fires were extinguished by the fire brigade and the club’s fans.
– On May 23 at approximately 9:18 p.m., a fire was detected along the trail system at South Bear Creek Park. The Alberta RCMP FCU is treating this fire as suspicious.
– On May 31, at approximately 12:23 p.m., a fire was reported on Resources Road near the Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club. Alberta RCMP FCU investigated a suspicious fire and is requesting dash cam footage from May 30 at 11 p.m. to May 31 at 1:30 a.m.
– On June 1, at approximately 12:28 p.m., a second fire was reported on Resources Road near the Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club. Alberta RCMP FCU investigated a suspicious fire and is requesting dash cam footage from May 31 at 11 p.m. to June 1 at 1:30 a.m.
