Sallah: Bring illegal goods, face the law – customs officer warns smugglers

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Ogun Area 1 Command, has warned smugglers to abandon any plans to bring illegal goods into the country during the upcoming Eid-el Kabir celebrations.

The District Comptroller, James Ojo, who issued the warning on Tuesday in Ota, Ogun State, said criminals would be forced to face the wrath of the law.

Ojo said many smugglers have been arrested several times, adding that they will continue to be arrested, especially those involved in smuggling rice into the country.

The area controller reiterated that the federal government does not want any illegal or prohibited goods to enter the country in any form.

“We are warning smugglers to stop dealing in illegal goods as customs authorities do not budge on such acts, and I want to assure them that we are up to the task.

“In addition, we are the best at customs clearance and we will leave no stone unturned to ensure that smugglers are booked,” he said.

While Ojo stated that the strength of personnel in the Service may now be reduced due to Muslim personnel celebrating Sallah, he however said that adequate forces would be deployed at strategic locations to enhance security.
