We can’t wait to see this giant Sewing Bee first

Contains spoilers for this series of The Great British Sewing Bee.

We’re loving the new series of The Great British Sewing Bee and watching new entrants tackle the challenges set by expert judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young.

And this week’s challenge is the first big Sewing Bee, which we can’t wait to see. In today’s (Tuesday) episode, amateur sewers take on a series of takes based on the themes of reduction, reuse and recycling.

The final made-to-measure challenge will involve taking a wedding dress and repurposing it to create an outfit fit for the event. Sewers will cut, dye and even paint dresses to transform traditional white dresses into party wear.

Sewing Bee contestants have never worked on wedding dresses before – we can’t wait to see the results. The stakes are even higher for contestant Marcus, who confesses to Esme and Patrick in the trailer for this week’s episode, “This is my wife’s wedding dress.” We can’t wait to see how his creation turns out!

As part of the ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ week, channels also have to take on a quilt bag pattern challenge using fabric scraps, followed by a transformation challenge involving a pile of discarded clothes. They must pick the best pieces from the junk pile to create a completely new item in their chosen color palette.

Last week, Patrick and Esme were delighted with Ailsa’s amazing pleated trousers, designed to be worn on the French Riviera, and she won the Garment of the Week award. Janet’s efforts were not enough and she was the third Bee sent home.

We can’t wait to see sewers transform old fabrics and clothes in this week’s challenges!

The Great British Sewing Bee can be watched on Tuesdays at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
