Woman arrested after allegedly breaking restraining order and attacking man with cleaver | News

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A woman was arrested Monday morning after allegedly violating a court-ordered restraining order and slashing a man with a cleaver-style knife, Springfield police said.

According to the Springfield Police Department, on June 10 around 6:40 a.m., officers responded to an address on Q Street for a report of an assault. Police said the man met with Michelle Lawson, 45, who was breaching a court order of protection by being around him. Police say Lawson pulled out a cleaver-style knife and swung at the man, cutting him in the arm. She allegedly left the area while the man ran back to the house to treat his wound.

Police said they began searching for Lawson and her daughter contacted police around 8:30 a.m. Police said Lawson’s daughter told them she was in the area of 155 Q Street, and several officers responded to the scene. Police said they found Lawson in her vehicle, disabled it and ordered her to exit the car, which she refused. SPD said Lawson exited the car and was taken into police custody only after a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team convinced her to surrender.

SPD said Lawson was charged with second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and violating a court-ordered protection from stalking order. Court records show Lawson was on probation for an unrelated crime committed in January 2024.
