Assam Police foiled cattle smuggling attempt in Jorabat, two arrested

A team of East Guwahati Police Department (EGPD) from Jorabat outpost of Basistha police station foiled an attempt to smuggle live cattle into Meghalaya in the early morning of June 11.

The team intercepted a truck (AS06 BC 1538) at the Jorabat crossing which was attempting to smuggle 28 live cattle.

During the operation, two persons, identified as Saddam Hussain (29) from Udalguri and Jalaluddin (22) from Kharupetia, were arrested for their involvement in cattle smuggling.

Timely action by the EGPD team prevented the illegal transportation of cattle, which were believed to be destined for markets in Meghalaya or other parts of the region.

Cattle smuggling is a persistent problem in the region, with organized syndicates attempting to transport cattle across national borders without proper documentation and payment of required taxes.

Assam Police has intensified efforts to crack down on such illegal activities by deploying special teams to monitor and intercept smuggling attempts on major routes and border points.
