Chelsea transfer news: club ‘worried’ about future of wanted 24-year-old

Chelsea are reportedly concerned about the possibility of a transfer saga involving the wanted player during the summer transfer window.

Chelsea they allegedly have concerns about how the entire transfer saga will play into it Conor Gallagher may take place in the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old has just featured for the Blues in the 2023-24 season, starting all but one of their 38 Premier League games as they eventually finished sixth in the table.

Gallagher also captained most of those games, but speculation persists that his progress with his boyhood club may be interrupted by the club’s co-owners.

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital made no attempt to extend Gallagher’s contract beyond 2025, preferring instead to cash in on his signature to strengthen the club’s position under the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.

Gallagher is reportedly priced at around £50m, but it is unclear whether any club would realistically consider paying that much for a player who will be available on a free transfer in 12 months’ time.

Boehly and Clearlake have concerns about Gallagher’s future

Reports suggest Gallagher has no shortage of admirers Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur AND Atletico Madrid all were granted interest.

On the other hand, it is known that Gallagher prefers to stay at Stamford Bridge and it has been indicated that the England international will not jump at any given opportunity.

According to Football expertChelsea officials fear Gallagher will be willing to bide his time before leaving the club on a free transfer next summer.

The report suggests that Gallagher is willing to take control of his future rather than accept that Chelsea are effectively trying to push him to the exit door to help balance the books.

It is also acknowledged that foreign clubs could start talks on a pre-contract agreement as early as January, giving Gallagher another reason to be patient.

What is the most likely outcome?

In Chelsea’s eyes, selling Gallagher before June 30 – the deadline for further returns – is seen as an excellent result.

However, with Gallagher now focused on his England duties at Euro 2024, getting the player to talk about what would be the biggest move of his career seems a long shot, especially when he has no desire to leave Chelsea at all.

Given his contract situation, even good performances in Germany will not improve his price, and realistically Chelsea will feel embarrassed about how this scenario plays out.

Chelsea could resolve the situation by selling other players and handing Gallagher a new contract, however recent claims have emerged that he is unsure whether he will suit the new head coach’s possession-based tactics Enzo Maresca.
