Fresno police have released the ID of a woman who allegedly stole a car with a small child inside

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) – Fresno police are releasing the identity of the woman who allegedly stole a car with a 1-year-old child in the backseat last Friday

The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Brandy Denise Cortez.

Fresno police say Cortez stole a sedan from the Arco gas station at Clinton and Marks avenues just after 11 a.m. Friday.

Officers found the car about an hour later, which had crashed into a dirt field in North Hayes, between Olive and Belmont.

The child was not injured

Cortez was booked into the Fresno County Jail.

She now faces charges of kidnapping, vehicle theft, child endangerment and probation violation.
