Prof. Georgi Fotev: This election campaign was shocking and disgusting. In her opinion, there should be no campaign ᐉ News from Fakti.bg – Bulgaria

“This election campaign was shocking and disgusting. Its meaning is that there is no campaign.” This was reported to BNR by a sociologist, former Minister of Science and Education, Prof. Georgi Fotev.

“The first measurements were completed. There were no serious debates on the main problems of Bulgarian society, which is part of the EU.

“Elections in a democratic society are intended to develop democratic and political culture.”

He noted that the world is undergoing unprecedented historical changes.

“It is becoming more and more opaque – both in life and in society. These issues should be raised in a public forum. There is a need to protect democracy itself.

We will have to look at ourselves. If something negative happens somewhere, let others fix it.

Prof. Fotev explained why there was no public debate on important issues in our country.

“The lack of such a debate is related to the state of the national media. The profession of a journalist is becoming more and more difficult. We are talking about what dominates. There are people who act not as analysts, but as promoters. We know in advance what they will say.

The electoral participation law is absolutely disgraceful. The first concern should be to preserve and develop the essence of democracy. There were countless completely random participants.

I would recommend introducing a provision to limit foul language in Parliament. Parliament and the national media are not a mess. This has nothing to do with freedom of speech.
