Search for the killer who shot a woman in the back – NBC10 Philadelphia

A month after a woman was shot and killed by a stray bullet outside a North Philadelphia deli, police hope photos and video will help them track down her killer and other suspects.

Victoria Romulus, 32, was walking south on the 4800 block of North Broad Street at approximately 4:45 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2024, when at least one shot was fired.

Romulus was shot once in the back. She ran to a nearby deli and collapsed inside the store, Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace said after the shooting.

People who were inside the deli when Romulus ran inside told NBC10 she uttered the word “help” before she fell.

“It’s terrible. I’m tired of watching this. I’m tired of seeing this,” the witness said.

Doctors arrived at the scene and took Romulus to a nearby hospital, where she died shortly thereafter.

“I thought she would make it. She is someone’s daughter, perhaps someone’s mother. But whoever did this, I hope they catch him,” said one witness.

The shooting began more than a block away

Police said they initially had difficulty finding any evidence of a shooting, but later discovered three spent shell casings across the street, more than a block away.

On Monday, June 11, 2024, the police published surveillance photos showing people wanted in connection with the shooting.

“The criminals encountered several other men in the area and there appeared to be a verbal altercation between the groups,” police said on Monday. “One of the perpetrators pulled out a gun and fired several shots at the other men.”

Police reported that one of these bullets hit and killed Romulus.

The police released a video showing three “criminals – including the bandit – and several suspicious people.

The video shows the groups scattered. One person appears to have lost his shoe while limping around with it in his hand. From a different angle, three people can be seen walking past from the porch.

Police asked the public for help in tracing those involved in the incident. They urged anyone who sees the suspects to immediately call 911. They said tips can be provided by calling or texting 215-686-8477 or by submitting tips online.

As with all Philadelphia homicides, there is a $20,000 reward for arrest and conviction.

As of Monday, at least 115 people had been killed in Philadelphia in 2024, according to police records. That’s a decline of about 38% from the same period last year and the lowest total number of homicides since 2016.
