‘Stranger Things’ Star Maya Hawke Reacts to ‘Heartbreaking’ Final Season (Exclusive)

How Stranger thingsAs production nears the final season, star Maya Hawke says the atmosphere among the cast and crew has been “heartbreaking.”

Hawke walked the red carpet at the star-studded premiere of her new Disney/Pixar animated film From the inside 2 – took place at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood on Monday – and spoke with ET’s Denny Directo about filming the show’s final season Stranger things.

“It’s starting to get painful, you know? This is the end of a really long journey, Hawke thought. “Even longer for some of my castmates than for me. It’s really sentimental.”

“But as a cast member who joined more recently, I feel like it’s my job to be here to ease their feelings and just be grateful and excited that I got to be a part of it at all,” Hawke said.

The actress explained that despite the bittersweet circumstances and difficult subject matter of the sci-fi/horror series itself, she loves being the one who adds joy and ease on set.

“We shoot for a long time, so it kind of brings the joy to life and finds it every day and makes it new,” Hawke said. “It’s really great fun.”

While she loves to be fun on set, Hawke lent her voice to the character of Anxiety On the left side 2, the long-awaited sequel to the beloved Pixar comedy.

The film – set primarily within a teenage girl’s mind and emotion control center – tells the story of all the complex, personified emotions that drive her actions and behaviors.

Amy Poehler reprises her role as Joy, alongside returning voice stars Phyllis Smith as Sadness and Lewis Black as Anger. Meanwhile, Tony Hale takes over the role of Fear from Bill Hader, and Liza Lapira voices Disgust (a role originally played by Mindy Kaling).

The sequel also features more diverse emotions, including Hawke’s Anxiety, Ayo Edebiri as Envy, Paul Walter Hauser as Embarrassment, and Adèle Exarchopoulos as Ennui.

“I hope (people) feel inspired to face difficult emotions and situations in life with courage and grace,” Hawke said when asked what she wants people to take away from the family film, “and knowing that even the emotions that no I don’t feel so good we are still here to help you.”

From the inside 2 will hit theaters on June 14.
