The former Chelsea star confesses: Talks about a PSG transfer were serious during his stay at Stamford Bridge

Over the past few years, Paris Saint-Germain fans have wanted the club to pursue its transfer targets. One of them is former Chelsea striker N’Golo Kanté, as it seemed like every summer window there were rumors linking him with the Parisians.

Kanté, now called Al-Ittihad, spent eight years at Chelsea before moving to Saudi Arabia. However, during his time at Stamford Bridge, the veteran has always been a target for PSG as he hails from the Paris region.

However, the transfer never took place. Kanté talked to Telefoot and was asked about returning to European football. French media also wondered why the 33-year-old never pushed for a move to his hometown club, which he revealed had been discussed.

“These are questions worth thinking about, you know? It’s true, when we look at the Premier League and European football from afar, it always impresses us, it always means something,” Kanté said Telefoot (h/t Foot Mercato).

“I’m Parisian. But honestly, I don’t think so. At one point there were possibilities; there were discussions, but they did not take place. Now, looking at their performances in the Champions League and the league, they have a solid midfield and a good team overall. But it’s not something I’m actively considering.”

PSG’s new transfer policy involves acquiring top French players, especially from the Paris area. Although it is probably too late to sign players from the Kanté era, the capital club wants to ensure that it has the next generation of young French talents, which began with the signing of Bradley Barcola and the extension of the contract of Warren Zaire-Emery.

It will be interesting to see if Parisian players decide to leave places like Chelsea to play for their hometown clubs in a few years.
