Chandigarh (Punjab) (India), June 11 (ANI): In the ongoing war on drugs waged on the orders of Prime Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police busted a cross-border drug smuggling ring by arresting three drug smugglers and recovered 8 kg of heroin in their possession, he said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.

The arrested were identified as Gursahib Singh, a resident of Jhanjoti village in Amritsar, Sajan Singh of Bhakna Kalan village in Amritsar and Satnam Singh of Kot Khalsa in Amritsar.

Apart from recovering the heroin consignment, police teams also recovered one .30 caliber pistol and 26 live cartridges of .30 caliber and also confiscated their Maruti Swift Car and Splendor motorcycle.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the Amritsar Counter Intelligence received intelligence inputs that some drug smugglers had recovered a huge consignment of heroin dropped by drone from the Indo-Pak border near Dharamkot Pattan village and intend to further deliver this consignment to drug dealer Satnam Singh near Kot Khalsa opposite Khalsa College in Amritsar.

Acting quickly, police teams led by DSP CI Amritsar Balbir Singh posted a special Naka at Adda Khusro Tahli and detained Gursahib and Sajan while they were traveling on a motorcycle and recovered 7.5 kg of heroin and 16 live cartridges, he said.

He said that later police teams laid a trap and also arrested drug supplier Satnam Singh from Kot Khalsa area and also recovered 500 grams of heroin and one .30 caliber pistol along with 10 live cartridges after which they confiscated his Swift car.

The DGP said that according to preliminary investigations, the accused were in direct contact with a Pakistani drug smuggler and were supplying heroin across the state after importing it from Pakistan.

Probe also revealed that a Pakistani drug smuggler used drones to deliver a consignment of drugs from abroad, he said, while adding that further investigation is being carried out to establish backward and forward links to expose the entire network.

Case FIR No. 34 dated 10/06/2024 was registered under section 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act and Art. 25 of the Arms Act at the Police Station, Special Operations Command, Amritsar. (OR)
