Man shot by police after allegedly murdering roommate in Fort Myers

Police shot and killed a man after he allegedly murdered his roommate at a Fort Myers home Sunday night. According to the Fort Myers Police Department, at approximately 11:32 p.m., police responded to the area of ​​Grand Avenue and Waltman Street where a woman and two children were hiding in a carport. The woman told police that her husband, 33-year-old Willy Lumaine, was killing his roommate in their home. Officers responded to a residence on Grand Avenue. The front door was open and a trail of blood was coming from the entrance to the house. Lumaine then began to smash the rear window with a large knife. He jumped out the window, holding a knife, and saw what appeared to be a dismembered body, FMPD said. Lumaine refused to drop the knife and turned to police. The officers shot him and provided medical assistance. The emergency medical team pronounced Lumaine dead at the scene. Police began a murder investigation after discovering body parts of the roommate inside and outside the residence. The victim has not been identified at this time. The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, according to FMPD policy.
