Tinubu comments on the heartbreaking death of Malawi’s vice president

In a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale on Tuesday, June 11, President Tinubu expressed his condolences to the families affected by the painful event that took place on Monday, June 10, 2024.

“President Bola Tinubu expresses his sincere condolences to His Excellency President Lazarus Chakwera and the people of Malawi over the death of Vice President Saulos Chilima and other officials in a plane crash.

“President Tinubu extends his condolences to the families of the deceased on this extremely depressing event that occurred on the mournful Monday, June 10, 2024.” the statement reads.

He assured Malawi of Nigeria’s support during this period of mourning and prayed for the souls of the deceased.

President Lazarus Chakwera confirmed the development in a televised statement on Tuesday morning.

He said, “The plane has been found. It is with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you all that this has turned out to be a terrible tragedy.”

The tragic incident is the second this year involving a world leader, weeks after the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.
