Two held in Tripura for smuggling heroin worth Indian rupees. 25 crore from Mizoram

Agartala: Tripura police arrested two persons late on Monday evening and seized 2,212 kg of heroin worth Rs. 25 crore in Damcherra, located in north Tripura district.

North District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty said he had received advance information regarding the transportation of a large quantity of drugs from Mizoram to Sonamura sub-division of Sepahijala district in Tripura.

“Acting on confidential information, the Commander of Damcherra Police Station intercepted a Hyundai Venue with registration number TR 01 BV 0595 in Damcherra, discovering 2,212 kg of heroin hidden in 177 plastic crates. Two persons, Sahidul Rahaman (35) and Jasim Uddin (35), both residents of Kulobari under Sonamura district, were arrested. The estimated value of the seized contraband is around ₹25 crore,” the SP said.
