The ANC rural leader tipped to replace Duma and Mtolo

The ANC president of KwaZulu-Natal’s most rural region is to lead the interim provincial structure amid plans to disband the provincial structure elected in July 2022.

The name of Siphile Mdaka, chairman of the Nokuhamba Nyawo region in the province’s far north, emerged after the IEC announced the results of the May 29 general election, which saw the ANC’s support in KZN drop to 17%.

Sources say Scrolla.Africa that the suggestion for Mdaka to head this structure followed the long dissatisfaction of many comrades, including ANC alliance partners, with the intimidating leadership style of Chairman Siboniso Duma and Secretary Bheki Mtolo.

“In fact, Mdaka was poised to become the new KZN secretary at the next ANC elective conference. “Unfortunately, the turn of events that embarrassed the ANC forced many leaders, including Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula, to put forward their name to chair the interim structure that will be established after the dissolution of Duma and Mtolo,” the source said.

On Monday, the South African National Civic Organization (Sanco) in KZN, part of the ANC Alliance, said Pride and Mtolo had cost the ANC dismally.

In December, Sanco were the first to call for the disbandment of ANC provincial leaders, complaining about Mtolo and Duma.

“ANC branches cannot do anything about these humiliating results. These comrades are literally limping from one disaster to another. The list of their disasters is endless. “Sanco KZN, in a press conference on December 20, 2023, mentioned some of its disasters, which included, among others, unparalleled arrogance and bullish tactics,” Cele said.

He described the ANC KZN leadership as haughty provincial officials who undermined alliance partners.

Mdaka declined to respond on the plan to appoint him as KZN chairman.

Mbalula said Scrolla.Africa that he was at a meeting and promised to return before the scheduled date, but unfortunately he did not arrive.
