Tornillo woman arrested after allegedly having cocaine in her vehicle

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A Tornillo woman was arrested and charged with possessing two packages of cocaine hidden where three children were sitting in her vehicle, according to District 6 of the El Paso County Constable’s Office.

According to the officer’s office, Genoveva Carrillo Esparza, 27, was stopped by a deputy for a traffic stop on Monday, June 10 at approximately 8 a.m. at 19300 Cobb in Fabens.

The trooper’s office said Carrillo Esparza’s SUV was impounded because it had an expired Texas buyer’s tag on it.

Inside Carrillo Esparza’s vehicle were another woman and three children ranging in age from 5 to 12 years old.

The deputy observed the driver’s nervous behavior and then began questioning two women whose stories were conflicting, the Constable’s Office said.

The deputy then obtained verbal consent to search Carrillo Esparza’s vehicle and found two packages containing a white substance under the children’s seats, according to the Constable’s Office. The policeman’s office reported that the white substance contained cocaine.

Carrillo Esparza was arrested and faces charges of manufacturing or delivering a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance weighing more than 400 grams. According to the constable’s office, the combined weight of both packages was 5.93 pounds.

Carrillo Esparza was booked into the El Paso County Detention Center on $100,000 bail, according to the constable’s office.

If convicted, Carrillo Esparza faces five to 99 years in prison and a fine not to exceed $10,000, the constable’s office said.
