Germany concerned about Trump’s planned tariffs on steel and aluminum

BERLIN (Reuters) – German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said in a media interview that he was “very concerned” about U.S. President Donald Trump’s planned tariffs on steel and aluminum and stressed that a trade war should be avoided at all costs.

“I hope President Trump will reconsider his statement,” Gabriel told the Funke newspaper group. “We must do everything possible to avoid an international trade war.”

Gabriel said the European Union must respond decisively to US tariffs, which he said threaten thousands of jobs in Europe.
