For the first few weeks of the general election campaign, between Ed Davey’s crazy exploits, the Liberal Democrats revealed what would be in their manifesto.

This means there won’t be many surprises when the party unveils the full document at an event in central London today.

So what are the most important things to pay attention to?

Sir Ed said fixing the care system would be a central part of the Lib Dem manifesto.

The pledges include an increase to the £20-a-week Carers’ Allowance, which the party says will benefit around 1.3 million eligible unpaid carers in England and Wales.

Remember when Sir Ed launched himself into Windermere from a paddleboard at the very beginning of the campaign? He was in the Lake District to talk about water quality.

They plan to give the rivers Blue Flag status, which would include legally binding targets to stop dumping sewage into the areas and give protected status to swimmers and wildlife.

A manifesto that received wide attention on Twitter: Libyan Democrats want to watch 10 Premier League matches per season on free-to-air television.

Sir Ed said: “We need to tear down the paywall and bring Premier League football back to the country. It’s a scandal that the country can’t watch the best teams.”

The party said it would give cancer patients the right to start treatment within 62 days of an urgent referral, in line with the NHS constitution.

Other health commitments in the manifesto will include adding 1,000 extra staffed hospital beds to “capture the ambulance waiting time crisis”.

The Lib Dems hope to create at least three new national parks, with the Chilterns, Surrey Hills and North Downs among the main candidates.

Onshore drilling will also be banned in national parks and other protected areas.
