Euphoria Season 3 Update Confirms Core Cast Return

Barbie Ferreira is the only “main” actor to have left the series.

Fans of the critically acclaimed HBO series Euphoria I can finally breathe a little easier. The network’s CEO confirmed that the series’ beloved ensemble will remain intact when production on the highly anticipated third season begins. Despite numerous delays and uncertainties surrounding the future of the provocative drama, HBO president Casey Bloys has affirmed that the “main cast” will reprise their roles. “It’s the same main cast,” Bloys confirmed to Variety.

In a recent Variety profile of series star Zendaya, who plays the series’ central character, Rue, Bloys shed light on the creative team’s plans for the upcoming season, revealing that creator Sam Levinson is grappling with the decision whether or not to continue the story in a high school or to advance the scenario beyond these familiar corridors. “One of the issues that I think Sam has is he doesn’t want to have that anymore in high school. That’s where it all happened and what made sense at the time,” Bloys explained .

The change of setting has led to extensive deliberations within the creative team as they work to determine an appropriate timeline and environment for the characters’ next chapter. “So when you take him out of that, there’s a lot of back and forth on where to place him and how far into the future and all that. But I think he has a vision that “enthusiasm, and he’s busy writing,” Bloys added, confirming that Levinson is actively developing scripts for Season 3.

While plot details for the new season remain shrouded in mystery, Levinson himself has teased a noir-inspired exploration of morality and individualism through the lens of Rue. In the profile, the creator describes the upcoming chapter as a “film noir” that will “explore what it means to be a principled individual in a corrupt world,” all told from Rue’s perspective.

Despite creative challenges and the tragic loss of co-star Angus Cloud last year, Bloys said the cast from previous seasons would remain constant for the new installment. This confirmation eases fans’ lingering concerns about possible casting departures or a significant shakeup.

The “main” cast of season 2 included Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Nika King, Eric Dane, Jacob Elordi, Algee Smith, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Javon Walton, Dominic Fike, Storm Reid and Austin Abrams. As Barbie Ferreira announced her departure from the series, the remaining cast members are expected to reprise their roles, playing the multi-layered characters that made them famous.

The prospect of bringing the ensemble together aroused enthusiasm among the actors themselves. In April, Schafer, who plays Jules Vaughn, expressed his enthusiasm for a potential reunion, saying: Variety“I really miss everyone. Everyone is doing really well in their careers right now. Everyone is a little exasperated, and so people travel a lot. Whatever happens, I’m just excited to get back together once it’s time and catch up and hang out.”
