A man was charged after pointing a shotgun at the victim

ELKINS, WV (WBOY) – A man was arrested after he allegedly pointed a shotgun at the victim and tried to choke him at a home in Randolph County.

According to the complaint, on June 11, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a reported physical dispute that occurred at a residence on Gun Dog Road.

Nathan Yokum

While en route, officers were informed that Nathan Yokum, 34, of Elkins, “grabbed a shotgun and pointed it at” the victim and then stated he was “going to shoot,” deputies said.

The victim left the residence and “attempted to escape,” but Yokum “followed her with a shotgun,” the complaint states. The victim then called 911 because she knew Yokum “would hide from law enforcement because he knew they were on the way,” according to the complaint.

Deputies later found the woman on Shaffer’s Run Road, and she told them Yokum was trying to choke her and was “dragging her all over the house,” deputies said. Deputies said they observed marks on her neck consistent with attempted strangulation.

The victim told deputies that when she “attempted to leave the residence,” Yokum “grabbed the shotgun, loaded a round” and “pointed it at her at close range.” The complaint says the argument began “when (Yokum) accused her of missing the drugs.”

Yokum was charged with wanton endangerment with a firearm. He is being held at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on $75,000 bail.
